Radda’s FinalĂ©

Yes, I waited until after April Fool’s to announce our final month at Radda. We will not be signing a new lease at this address. I thought you wouldn’t believe it, but if you’ve been in, you’d know, we’re just another casualty of 2008, and being so very independent, we have no backing to carry us through the year. And to tell the truth, some serious family medical issues will require my energy for the foreseeable future. Oh yeah, and a 16 month old baby girl!

Radda’s been a very personal endeavor, and a great learning experience, and the energy and support it takes to see it through need to be spent elsewhere. But this month we’re putting in our all, savoring all that is Radda; fresh, beautiful food in a simple, elegant atmosphere where people meet to enjoy one another. We have created a wonderful niche in the Scottsdale dining scene, and that is only because of you, our unpretentious patrons who understood our ideals of true home cooking, fresh ingredients, olive oil, rosemary and garlic, good Tuscan wine and good company.

I’m actually looking forward to what comes next. After some family time, anything could happen. But meanwhile, it’s business as usual!

Please come in for your favorite dishes and wines. We’re looking forward to treating you all at least one more time, doing what we love to do!

Radda hosts the most fantastic, little-known happy hour in Scottsdale, and we’re tired of it being a secret! The room is yours. Appetizers are half price! Wines, Martinis and Cocktails are $6! No pretense, no corporate commercially developed concept to appeal to the masses. The malls are full, the museums are empty. Come escape it all at Radda! Where the food and people are real.

Rassegna del Chianti!
It’s September, time for a celebration of all that is Chianti in, well, Chianti. September is when the Sangiovese ripens and harvest begins this week through early October. We’re drinking Chianti, and cooking with it too, in recipes like Sausage in rich Chianti sauce served over Polenta, Risotto al Chianti e Portobello, Chianti marinated Filet. Saturday’s Wine Tasting is all Chianti Classicos and Riservas paired with Tuscan Salume; spiced salames and olives to whet your appetite.

Maculan, Family Winemakers in Breganze
For three generations the Maculan family has been selecting and vinifying the best grapes in Breganze, an enchanting village, set like a small jewel at the foot of the Alps in the Veneto region. Our tasting will consist of Maculan’s two better known blends and their 3 bicchiere gambero-rosso winning Cabernet paired with our famous Tuscan Eggroll. Creamy Risotto and delicate Asparagus and cheese in a crispy shell.

  1. Maculan Pino & Toi ‘06 Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco and Tocai
  2. Maculan Brentino ‘04 Cab-Merlot
  3. Maculan Fratta ‘03 Cabernet

Sangria!

We’ve decided to keep a batch of home-made Sangria at the Bar for the rest of the summer. Ripe fruit, luscious red wine and secret ingredients from a 12th Century Spanish Recipe (translated: it feels like a hundred years since I was sitting on a beach in Spain sipping Sangria with a dozen or so fellow eurotrash backpackers). Come in, cool off, and say, ‘ciao’. Or ‘hola’. Or just sit quietly and dream of being anywhere but Arizona during the summer. Sigh…

Every July we turn our Wine Tastings into Beer Tastings. Cold, Crisp, and did I mention Cold? Dogfish Head Brewery will delight our senses this hot July night with their unusual, over-the-top style in anticipation of a Wine Vs. Beer dinner that we’ll be hosting with the brewery come September.

  1. 60 Minute India Pale Ale, with crisp, citrusy hop character
  2. Raison D’Etre, a malty mahogany ale brewed with green raisins and Belgian yeast
  3. Festina Peche, Berliner-Weisse style, delicately hopped, fermented peach throughout, a lower alcohol summer-only brew.

Your beer tasting plus our specially paired appetizer is $20.00, available all night long!
